Stamford is working to officially open a museum dedicated to African- Americans who served in the US military in WWII.

"The 1.2 million African-Americans that served in WWII and there's whites too, but the emphasis is on that," said Mabel W. Jorgensen, a Stamford resident who is working to open the museum.

She says the museum is the only one of its kind in the United States. It will feature a display of artifacts and will be a center for ongoing teaching and research. Currently, they're looking to use a building on Courtland Ave. for the museum.
