HONOREE - FRANCIS WINSLEY

Francis (Frank) Winsley -
a native of Stamford; a graduate of Delaware State College,
Dover, Delaware with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Distributive
Education.
Francis was drafted into the United
States Army during World
11 in his eleventh
year at Stamford High
School (1944).
He spent two years in the United
States Army and in
his last year, was selected to replace the combat troops in Japan.
While on the ship to Japan, an announcement over the radio stated “the war
was over”.
Discharged as a Corporal from the United States Army Frank returned
home to secure his diploma from Stamford
High School. After receiving his High School diploma, he
applied and was accepted. to attend Morehouse College,
Atlanta, Georgia in February of 1949 to pursue his dream of
becoming a doctor.
To name a few of Frank’s experiences while at Morehouse; shared a
history class with Martin
Luther King’s brother,
sang in the chorus with Corretta
Scott who later
became Corretta Scott
King. Martin
Luther King, Jr. was nineteen years old and was leaving
Morehouse to continue his graduate level education.
Frank left Morehouse College to join the United
States Air Force. (1951-1971) Stationed at Hunter
Air Force Base Savannah, Georgia, Upper Heyford, England,
Bitburg Germany, Dover Air Force Base, Okinawa, Japan, Loring
AFB, Maine, Viet
Nam, and back to Dover Air Force Base. Retired from
the Air Force; Master Sgt. in 1972.
Frank is a substitute teacher at the Capitol School District, Dover,
DE . He resides in -Camden, Delaware with his wife Doris
Trader Winsley.
